The local Benevolent and Patriot Order of the Elks #2306 will perform the Flag Day Ritual at 6:00 pm on the south side of the square Friday night of the Festival. They will be assisted by, the VFW # 9599, American Legion #11, Boy Scout Troop # 534 and Cub Scout Pack #534.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is the first and only fraternal body to require formal observance of Flag Day. In July of 1908, the Grand Lodge of this Order provided for the annual nationwide observance of Flag Day on the 14th of June in each year, by making it mandatory upon each subordinate lodge of the order.
The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will display each flag in American history as its story unfolds. The VFW and American Legion will assist in the folding of the flag and explain each fold’s meaning.
In case of rain, the ceremony will take place at the Elks Lodge at 103 W. Harrison.
